Abstract
This paper analyses changes in work values across Europe. Work values are considered through the lens of importance an individual assigns to them in various aspects of their employment. Within examining the "subjective" aspects of labour market changes, the paper sets a key objective: to determine whether shifts in work values have occurred among social actors within the working-age population, following the financial crisis. The paper is structured into several key sections. First, it outlines the theoretical and methodological framework. Then, the central part of the paper offers a longitudinal and cross-sectional analysis of work values among employees in Europe, evaluated within the context of the global economic crisis. Finally, it concludes with a discussion of the findings and their implications for future cross-national research on European workers. The study sought to empirically investigate changes in work values, utilizing data from two cycles of the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP). The research findings have shown that work values are the result of complex and simultaneously specific economic, social and cultural conditions. In several European countries, significant changes have been observed in workers' priorities, particularly regarding the fact that the intrinsic values underwent more pronounced changes during the analysed period than the extrinsic values.
