Abstract
In this paper author discuss the issue of women 's political identity, its creation, development and characteristics. It's a review and short survey about the development of women 's identity in the United States and the development of women 's political identity in Serbia. In the paper author points out the connection between the creating and development of female gender identity and political identity. Also, it will be point out some of the differences that exist in the attitudes of women in Serbia in relation to their gender and political identity. The paper gives some answers to the question whether it is necessary for women to have a political identity as a source of legitimacy for their public and political engagement.
