Abstract

This thematic collection of papers aims to bring together two fields of inquiry: research on gender politics and policy changes, with particular attention to gender aspects of democratic institutions and research on dynamics of LGBTIQA+ population and understanding of different gender identities. This volume on contemporary challenges in gender research is conceptualized interdisciplinary and covers issues that are currently relevant to gender studies within the social sciences and humanities. The objective was to make a productive and stimulating publication with research across various fields - philosophy, sociology, economy, political science, legal studies, anthropology, cultural studies - in order to facilitate a better understanding of current challenges to gender theory and practice. The fact that gender studies are endangered and suffocated at many universities across Europe (Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria) indicates the high relevance of this field in theory and research and reveals the revitalization of patriarchal, authoritarian and conservative influence on norms and principles of women’s rights and feminist intellectual, activist and artistic practices. Finally, the aim of this publication is to fill the gaps between academic research and the practice of designing and implementing gender policy in the light of current political and social developments in Serbia, region and EU.
