Abstract

This chapter deals with the importance of analysing gender equality within the international scientific market and within certain segments of research work and activities. In the contemporary developed world, women account for about 40% of researchers in science. Women are increasingly represented in STEM, but still significantly less than men, in general. Women on average publish fewer research papers than men. This gender imbalance in scientific research has not been mirrored in the domain of quoting and downloading scientific papers from electronic platforms, for scientific journals. Women also co-operate in international research projects less than men and, to а lesser extent publish works co-authored with colleagues from these projects. So, the increase in the number of women in research is not accompanied bу changes in the direction of more frequent cooperation between researchers at the international level. On the other hand, the female scientific output involves а slightly higher proportion of highly interdisciplinary research. One of the more noticeable differences is the fact that women are less mobile than men, and they are considerably more involved in projects that do not involve researchers as а migrant population. The research on gender equality issues has been increased over the past several decades, especially in terms of coverage and complexity, and а growing number of new topics that emerge almost every day. The largest number of published works, which use the term 'gender' in the title, are present in biomedical and social science disciplines. There is also an enhancement in the number of works on the issues of feminism, gender bias, gender discrimination, and gender equality.
